Cystosarcoma Phyllodes of the Breast




Abstract
Cystosarcoma phyllodes is an uncommon breast neoplasm with a wide variety of pathologic and clinical features. Thirteen cases operated on for cystosarcoma phyllodes at Guro Hospital of Korea University from 1984 to 1992 were reviewed. The
pathological
results revealed benign form cystosarcoma phyllodes in 11 cases and maligmant form in 2 cases. The patients ranged from 19 to 48 years, with a average age of 34.5 years. The main symptoms were the mass and the rapid tumor growth. The mass
presented
in
all cases, among them painless ones in 10 cases and the rapid tumor growth n 8 cases, including all two malignant tumors. The diameter of the tumor at the operation ranged from 6.5 to 18cm with a mean size of 7.7cm. All the patients had received
surgical treatment: 8 cases had been treated conservatively(3 excisional biopsy, 5 wide resection) and 5 had undergone radical operation(1 modified radical mastectomy, 1 subcutaneous mastectomy, 3 simple mastectomy).
